There are two components to child support in Ontario:
1.) Base Child Support: this is determined based on the annual income of the support payor and the number of children for whom support is payable; and
2.) Special Child Support Expenses: certain additional expenses such as daycare, post-secondary education, extra curricular activities, etc. must be shared by the parties.
Support payable may also be affected by the amount of time that the parties care for any children of the relationship.
Many issues arise including the parties’ incomes, whether the special expenses are appropriate, etc.
